What is Meditation?
Meditation is the art of balanced awareness. It is a method for returning again and again to the source of inner healing. Through the practice of meditation one brings the body, breath, mind, and heart to a state of profound stillness and peace. The practice of meditation is a skill that can be easily learned.
What Meditation is NOT?
Many people will tell you they "meditate". They will say they "meditate" when they take a walk or when they sit and view a beautiful sunset or when they listen to an inspirational piece of music. And, although they may have a wonderful, relaxing, even moving experience – technically speaking, they are not meditating. Meditation is not relaxation nor daydreaming, nor reverie. Meditation is a specific mind state in which mental fluctuations are stilled and the mind moves in an effortless flow. It is the art of touching a state of being which is inherently healing, peaceful, and complete.
Why does Focus Healthcare Offer Meditation?
Often in the rush of daily life there is a sense of "something missing". Some people attempt to fill in this "missing piece" with alcohol, drugs, or some other, ultimately unsatisfying experience.
Yet each of us has had moments of completeness, clarity, and peace. Often these moments come unbidden. At these times we sense the deeper meaning and purpose of life. Meditation is a practice of intentionally opening to this deeper dimension of your being and the universe. In the practice of meditation you re-establish a state of balance and unity.
Janka is a certified meditation teacher and leads our patients in meditation Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
